fire extinguishers

A small fire can escalate into a full scale disaster, endangering life and property. Tackling this fire with a fire extinguisher could make all the difference between a minor and major incident, proving essential safety for your staff, visitors and premises and stopping that small fire.

PWP Fire & Security can specify, supply, install and maintain the correct fire extinguishers for your premises.

Your Legal Obligation

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 which became law in October 2006 and applies to virtually every type of premises that a person will enter, it is the legal duty of the owner/manager of that premises to ensure safety by supplying and maintaining the correct types of fire extinguishers.

PWP Fire & Security offer the support and assistance in deciding which types of extinguisher are right for you but here is a quick guide to the types of fire and the extinguisher recommended.

Extinguisher Maintenance

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 is extremely specific on the maintenance required in order to ensure that your fire extinguishers are in full working order at all times. It is vital that a life saving appliance such as this does not let you down when you need it most.

The order states that extinguishers must be visually inspected in-house monthly and the inspection recorded in a Fire Log Book and that a BAFE approved technician should service the extinguishers to BS 5306 part 3 at least once a year.

Every 5 years the order requires an 'Extended Service' where the extinguisher is discharged under controlled test conditions, its performance recorded and any faulty or work parts replaced, before it is recharged and returned to service.

PWP Fire & Security have trained engineers who are able to carry out both annual and extended services on site for you.

Extinguisher Replacement Service

PWP Fire & Security also offer an alternative to annual and extended servicing with our Extinguisher Replacement Service. This reduces the time for which you have an engineer on site and eliminates any mess caused by discharge tests during extended services by simply replacing your 'old' extinguishers annually with 'new' fully operational refurbished, tested and maintained extinguishers.
